🛍️ 5 tips to level up your product recommendation emails |
You work so hard to bring customers to your eCommerce shop. So, it's important to make the most out of it when they sign up. Using product recommendation emails, you can get them to make a purchase or a repeat purchase. You do this by making them aware of the different types of products you offer. However, most brands only add their best sellers in a product recommendation email and call it a day. It might seem like a decent strategy since they are bestsellers for a reason, but chances are you might be losing out on tons of sales. So, today, we'll be discussing tips and strategies to incorporate into your product recommendation emails to help you drive more conversions from them. |
# 1: Use interactive emails to make it easy to purchase | An interactive product recommendation email like the one below can potentially help increase sales. This is because it lets people purchase products from your email directly. It eliminates drop-offs that happen when you redirect them to your store. Interesting, right? Learn more about it here. |
#2: Show personalized recommendations | Showing bestsellers is alright, but it might not be what that particular individual is interested in, and they are less likely to buy it. So, personalize your recommendations based on the individual's interest, as Donors Choose has done below. They have recommended products that the person (a teacher of 5th grade) might need in the back-to-school season. You can also do this by looking at the data of their past purchases, browsing history, wish lists, abandoned carts, etc, and recommend products accordingly.
# 3: Don’t underestimate the power of aesthetics | According to research, 92% of participants preferred buying from websites with a good-looking design, as it looks professional and credible. Although this study is on websites, the same things are also valid for an email. If your email is not properly designed, you might not gain people’s trust, thus losing potential revenue. So, focus on making your email template visually appealing and on-brand. Use high-quality images that showcase your products in the best light. Ensure that the design elements, such as colors, fonts, and layout, align with your brand identity. If email design is not your forte, and you don’t know where to start, check out our resource “Email Design for Newbies.” In it, we break down the basics of an email template design and how to master it. |

# 4: Have a clear and actionable CTA | I have seen many emails, especially from ecommerce brands, where they focus on adding beautiful images and completely forget to add a CTA or use a small one at the end of the email. We recommend testing your CTA placements to determine which location (top of the email, middle, or bottom) works well for your brand. Maintain a hierarchy by making your primary CTA stand out using colors or design style. And, for the copy of the CTA, prompt recipients to take immediate action, like "Shop Now" or "Explore Recommendations." Or, you can use a creative touch as Everlane has done below, asking people to visit their ‘vacation shop’ where they are promoting their summer outfits.
#5: Provide social proof to erase hesitation | Social proofs like customer reviews, ratings, or testimonials show your audience what people really think about your product. So, when they see positive reviews and testimonials, they are more likely to trust your brand, which can sway hesitant customers to purchase. | | Now that you know how to level up your product recommendation emails, we conclude with one last tip. Don’t just send one product recommendation email to your audience. Rather, send a flow of 3 to 4 emails. If you don’t know how to do so, we created a resource to help you create your product recommendation flow. Check it out here. |
